• European pond turtles, also known as Emys orbicularis, are a common species of turtle found throughout Europe and parts of Asia. These turtles are known for their distinctive olive-green coloration and yellow or orange markings on their skin and shell. They typically inhabit freshwater ponds, marshes, rivers, and lakes, where they can be found basking in the sun or swimming gracefully through the water. European pond turtles are omnivores, feeding on a diet that includes aquatic plants, insects, small fish, and invertebrates.One of the most fascinating aspects of European pond turtles is their unique reproductive behavior. Female turtles will dig a hole in the sand or mud near the water’s edge to lay their eggs, typically laying between 3 and 12 eggs at a time.
