Q1: What size tank/ enclosure should I get?
A: Babies: 8 inch Exo-Terra / ZooMed cube enclosures.
Big juveniles/adults: 12x12x18 or 18x18x18 Exo-Terra / ZooMed cube enclosures.
Q2: What should I have set up in this enclosure for my gecko?
A: A substrate that holds humidity (paper towels, cypress mulch, sphagnum moss, etc.), foliage, branches, food and water bowl.
Q3: What type of lighting set up does my gecko require?
A: NONE. DO NOT PUT ANY HEAT BULBS FOR CRESTED GECKOS
Q4: What humidity levels does my gecko require?
A: 50-80% humidity is necessary.
Q5: What were we feeding this gecko at Tikis Geckos?
A: We mainly feed Repashy Mango Superblend, Repashy Classic, and Pangea Breeding Formula (occasionally we rotate the other flavors of Repashy and Pangea). Babies and juveniles should get crickets once a week. Adults should get crickets twice a month.
Q6: What are some treats I can introduce to my gecko?
A: Fresh Banana, fresh mango, wax worms, phoenix worms, mealworms, Respashy Grub Pie, Repashy Banana Creampie
Q7: How often should I be feeding my gecko?
A: Babies and juveniles should be fed every other day. Adults should be fed 1-3 times a week. You do not need to hand feed your geckos.
Q8: What type of supplements should I include in my animals diet?
A: Calcium with D3 dusted on insects ONLY!
Q9: How long can my gecko live for? How big can my gecko get?
A: They can live 10-20 years with proper care. They will grow up to 8-9 inches, 45-60 grams on average.
Q10: How often can I handle my gecko?
A: Handling varies on the individual animal and their personalities. However, Crested Geckos tolerate handling very well and can be handled for short sessions a few times a week.
Q11: At what age will my gecko reach sexual maturity? At what age should I be able to know the sex of my gecko?
A: Depending on how fast they grow, typically 2 years old. Usually at around a year old you can see the hemipenal bulge on the males.
Q12: How often will my gecko shed?
A: Once a month, but it’s a very fast process and typically happens
at night when you are sleeping and they will eat their shed.
Q13: Is my gecko a solitary animal? Can I put my gecko in the same enclosure with another gecko?
A: Babies and juveniles can be kept together without issues if they are setup / fed properly. Adult males should NOT be housed together. Groups of 1 male and multiple females can be kept together but they will breed.
Q14: What are some signs I should look for if there is something wrong with my gecko?
A: If the animal is looking lethargic, shedding issues, if limbs become swollen, starts to develop any deformities, or obesity issues., etc. Please contact us with photos and videos if you start to notice any of these symptoms.
Q15: I just received my animal, what should I do now?
A: Once you take your gecko out of its shipping box, place your animal in its enclosure and leave it alone for the first 24 hours to lessen stress levels for your animal. Make sure to have water available. Offer food after 24 hours. Handle once the gecko has settled in completely.
