These turtles are easily identified by their large, powerful jaws and strong, thick limbs. They have a remarkably long tail, which can make up nearly half of their total body length. Their shells are typically dark brown or black in color, which helps them blend in with the murky waters of their freshwater habitats.Florida snapping turtles primarily inhabit shallow bodies of water, such as swamps, marshes, and slow-moving rivers. They are opportunistic feeders, preying on a variety of aquatic organisms including fish, frogs, insects, and even small mammals.
